No More Stigmas: Suicide Awareness & Mental Health Month
Lake Region Healthcare’s (LRH) Living Well Series for May will feature the topic “No More Stigmas: Suicide Awareness and Mental Health month” at 5:45pm on Monday May 14th, 2018 in the Fergus Falls Clinic Main lobby.
Two LRH professionals, Maria Willits, LPN in LRH Psychiatry and LRH Chaplain Deb Forstner, will speak on the topic. Maria will be providing QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) Gatekeeper Training for attendees. This is an evidence based suicide prevention, educational program that teaches the lay and professional “gatekeepers” the warning signs of suicide crisis and how to respond. She calls it the “CPR of mental health crisis”. Deb will be discussing some of the spiritual aspects of mental health and that mental health treatment can work, with the goal of dispelling the stigma often associated with mental illness.
The Living Well educational forums are held the second Monday of each month from September through May in the Lake Region Healthcare Clinic Services Lobby at 111 E Vernon Ave in Fergus Falls. Each month, knowledgeable professionals present on such topics as trends in diet & exercise, diabetes prevention, reading labels at the grocery store and much more.
All sessions are free and open to the public, but registration is requested to plan for refreshments. Please call 218.736.8699 or email livingwell@lrhc.org for information or to register. Individual session topics and details for future Living Well sessions are available on the “Calendar” link under the Health & Wellness tab at www.lrhc.org.
