Small Business Round Table: How to Hire Top Talent
Fergus Falls Small Business Appreciation
Round Table Discussion: How to Hire Top Talent in a Small Town
Hiring top talent when your business is located in a small town can be a frustrating, nagging problem for growing business owners. Sometimes, businesses hire less qualified candidates for key positions simply because they are not able to find the exact talent needed for an open position. The results are predictable: good-character, well-intentioned employees sometimes can’t perform to the level needed by the business, but since it’s a small town, it becomes difficult to fire them, in part, because there is no one to replace them.
In this session, Bill English will discuss ways to overcome the hiring problem for businesses in small towns. He will discuss how to use technology to build and manage dispersed teams, how to start the hiring process in the place where your potential candidates live and how to grow your culture when your teams do not physically work together.
Specifically, Bill will discuss:
- How today’s technology allows you to expand the geographic regions for key employee search activities
- How to hire an “N-1” employee
- Why planning on turnover is essential to your success
- How to maintain your culture when remote employees
- Best practices for managing remote teams
- Organization impact considerations
