Tests and measures patient's strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, and records findings to develop or revise treatment programs as appropriate.
Plans and prepares appropriate written treatment program based on evaluation of patient data and provides program information to patient.
Administers exercises and activity to improve and maintain function.
Instructs, motivates, and assists patient to perform various physical activities and in use of assistant and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
Administers treatments involving application of physical agents.
Evaluates the effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
Administers manual techniques to relieve pain and gain motion.
Observes patients during treatments and compiles and evaluates data on patients’ responses to treatments and progress.
Records treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart or electronic medical record.
Performs and follows through with external employee placement screens for clients as directed through OSPTI.
Instructs, motivates, and assists patients to learn and improve functional activities such as pre-ambulation, transfers, ambulation, and daily living activities.
Instructs patient and family in home treatment programs as well as care and use of adaptive equipment.
Evaluates, fits, and adjusts prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommends modification to orthotist as appropriate.
Orients, instructs, and directs work activities of assistants, aides, and students as appropriate.
Confers with physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggests revisions in treatment program, and integrates occupational therapy treatment with other aspects of patient's health care.
Confers with members of therapy staff, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.
Plans and conducts lectures and training programs on physical therapy and related topics for OSPTI staff, students, and community groups.
Assumes responsibility for enhancing personal and professional development through continuing education opportunities.
Completes appropriate billing and patient documentation adequately and in a timely manner.
Complies with all regulatory (State and Federal government), professional, ethical, and quality clinic standards.
Assists with special projects and general housekeeping needs throughout the clinic.
Follows all safety procedures, policies, and manufacturers’ instructions where applicable. Provides a safe work environment.
Complies with HIPAA, making sure all patient information is kept confidential.
Participates in marketing, community in-services, and other events sponsored or attended by OSPTI as able.
