West Central Initiative offers a paid summer internship for communications/marketing/public relations students for the summer of 2020.
Do you enjoy interviewing people who are new to a community and creating short profiles of their journey? Does your writing style capture the audience? Do grammatical or punctuation errors drive you crazy? Do you consider yourself a good editor to proofread other documents?
Are you able to create engaging social media posts and understand the nuances of digital communications? Do you have a good understanding about Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube? Would the data from Google Analytics mean anything to you? Can you use the Microsoft platform, do you prefer Apple, or are you familiar with both?
Have you used common digital tools to create graphics, photos, videos and drawings such as Photoshop and Illustrator? Have you used Canva or Adobe Spark, or would you like to learn more about those products? Do you have samples of some videos and a short portfolio of photos you've created? Do you have experience using a digital camera?
Would you feel comfortable engaging the public from a display at a summer festival? Are you able to be out and about for extended periods of time? Have you participated in any special event planning, including set-up and tear-down of a booth?
Do you have your own transportation at times to cover our nine-county region (with mileage paid). While most days are 9-to-5, are you available to work some nights and weekends?
Are you passionate about the Sustainable Development Goals as identified by the United Nations. Can you see those goals as part of your summer experience? Does working with a regional community nonprofit in rural Minnesota sounds like something you might enjoy?
