(FERGUS FALLS, Minn.) – Lake Region Healthcare (LRH) is posing yet another challenge to the community in the form of a winter health challenge with a chance at a big grand prize: a $2,000 travel voucher made possible by the LRH Foundation.  Registration opens on Monday, January 7th with the first week of challenge activities scheduled to begin on January 14th.

The weekly challenges will include resources to learn more about each component of health and one related item to track for the week.

    They include:
Week 1 – Physical Health: Total Minutes of Exercise
Week 2 – Occupational Health: Total Hours of Sleep
Week 3 – Nutritional Health: Total Servings of Fruits & Vegetables
Week 4 – Emotional Health: Total recorded reflections of “Three Good Things”
Week 5 – Social Health: Total Random Acts of Kindness completed
Week 6 – Environmental Health: Total Items Recycled
Week 7 – Spiritual Health: Total number of Gratitude Messages sent
Week 8 – Intellectual Health: Total minutes of books/articles/podcasts read or listened to

For the past five years, LRH has awarded a similar prize to the winner of their challenges to “Walk to Waikiki”, “Move it to Maui,” go “Around the World in 80 Days” and “Shoot for the Moon.” Those challenges were all based on exercising the collective number of minutes or miles to reach a community goal. Last year’s challenge took on a different spin by introducing the idea of well-rounded health & wellness by incorporating a more robust of wellness components into the challenge.

“We are really excited to have the Wheel of Wellness back for another year and continue building on the lifestyle habits that create an overall sense of health and well-being,” said LRH Director of Wellness, Natalie Knutson. “We really hope everyone will hop on board right away for the first week since it will be reminiscent of our early challenges. We’re hoping enough people sign up & exercise enough minutes the first week to help us reach a tropical beach destination like San Diego or Cabo San Lucas or the Bahamas,” she added. She said the rest of the challenge activities would happen “virtually” from the location reached the first week.

Participants can find more information about the challenge, links to register, record challenge activities, view weekly progress and more at the challenge website: www.lrhc.org/wow. For those without computer access, a paper copy of the registration and tracking forms can be requested by calling 218.736.8193.

If the community reaches the weekly goals set for each wellness activity tracked, a $2000 travel voucher good to the winner’s destination of choice will be given at the Living Well Community Health Expo to be held at M State in Fergus Falls on March 14th. You must participate in at least four weeks of challenge activities to qualify for the grand prize. Participants will also be eligible for weekly prizes that will be announced in an eNewsletter sent to all participants and on Facebook each week. Additional prizes to be awarded at the March expo event as well including a cash prizes, a bike from Central Lakes Cycle and more.
