Fergus Falls Area Habitat for Humanity Affiliate Inc.
Homeownership Program Family Selection
Application Period: February 1, – March 29, 2019
Applications for the Fergus Falls Area Habitat for Humanity (FFAHFH) Homeownership Program for 2019 are now being accepted. Applications will be taken for a new home in Fergus Falls and a renovated home in Battle Lake. Applications can only be obtained in person by appointment only at our warehouse office. A reservation can be made by calling our office at 218-736-2905. No applications will be mailed or sent out electronically. Please be aware that if you have applied in the past, a new application is required due to the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA).
Selection for Habitat homes are based upon:
- Housing need. Is your current dwelling unsafe? Overcrowded? Deteriorating? Have you done the best you can with what you have, but it still isn’t a good foundation for a stable life? Are you currently paying more than 30% of your monthly income for shelter?
- Ability to Pay. The Habitat homebuyer must be able to make their Habitat mortgage payment every month. The monthly home payment will not exceed 30% of the Habitat homebuyer’s total household income.
- Willingness to Partner. Homebuyers must contribute “sweat equity,” working to build or refurbish this or other homes, prior to moving in. Learn new skills, see how a home works, and meet new friends in our community through working with us.
Habitat serves families with incomes in the 30% – 60% of Area Median Income (AMI) in Ottertail County. For example, a family of four needs to make between $24,300 and $51,000 per year. The limits are adjusted based on the size of the family.
