(Fergus Falls, MN) Lake Region Healthcare (LRH) Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of their 2019 Healthcare Professions Scholarships. Madeline Iversen, Megan Aasness, Cristina Masten and Anna Kotton have each been selected by the Foundation to receive a five thousand dollar scholarship.

“Lake Region Healthcare Foundation would like to extend our congratulations to the recipients of the 2019 Healthcare Professions Scholarship, said Foundation Chair, Andrew Yaggie. “We are glad to support the efforts of those in our community who want to pursue careers in healthcare and hopefully encourage them to bring their skills back home someday as well,” he said. This was the fourth year of the LRH Foundation Healthcare Professions Scholarship program.

    About the Recipients

Madeline Iversen is finishing her fourth year of nursing at North Dakota State University. In her application Madeline stated “I learned how to care for all, in a way beyond fixing the issue – looking at what makes a person whole: their home life and environment, past experiences, health, spiritual desires, thoughts and feelings. I will continue to use what I have gained through the Fergus Falls community to provide empathy, nurturing, holistic-based care to all populations…”

Megan Aasness is finishing her third year of nursing at the University of Northwestern. She explains in her application, “I desire to educate students that have an interest in the medical field and those who are going through nursing school. I want to use my experiences as well as my successes and failures as a nurse to inspire future nurses to be the best that they can be. I also want to give back to nursing by educating nurses in third world countries to advance their medical knowledge and technology.”

Cristina Masten earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine this spring. She shared with the committee, “It is important to give back to your profession by becoming a mentor for other individuals choosing a medical profession. The path is not always the most straight forward and I would not be where I am today without the great mentors I have had and will continue to have.”

Anna Kotten is finishing her second year of occupational therapy at St. Catherine University. Anna said “I have gained an increased knowledge in the importance of roles, participation, advocacy and social inclusion as they relate to occupational performance. My roles as a future occupational therapist, community member, mother, and spouse are filled with compassion and enthusiasm.  As I carry an undergraduate degree in exercise physiology, my educational focus has been built upon health and wellness. This background supplements my future endeavors by allowing me to provide holistic quality client-centered care within the rural community of Fergus Falls.”

The 2020 scholarship applications will be available in March on the Lake Region Healthcare’s website under Foundation. Past applicants who have not received scholarship awards are encouraged to re-apply.
