LRH “Living Well” Education October Session to Address Myths about Antibiotics
Panel Discussion will Provide Education on Antibiotic Resistance
(FERGUS FALLS, Minn.) – Renae Lien, Pharmacy Director and Sarah Brunn, Infection Prevention Coordinator will lead a panel discussion on Truths and Myths About Antibiotics for the October Living Well Education Series session sponsored by Lake Region Healthcare (LRH). The session will be held at the Fergus Falls Public Library Community Room beginning at 5:45pm on Tuesday, October 1st.
“There’s been the idea for many years that antibiotics are only helpful, and the use of them does not carry any risks,” Brunn said. “One of the biggest public health concerns in the United States right now is antibiotic resistance. According to the Centers for Disease Control, up to 50% of antibiotic prescriptions written today are either unnecessary or incorrectly prescribed. We have to be really careful with how we use and prescribe antibiotics,” she added.
The panel discussion will address topics such as appropriate prescribing, importance of taking the full course of prescribed medications, saving and sharing medications, and new ways to prevent, detect and treat bacterial infections. There will be time for Q&A as well.
