Frontier Marine & Powersports: Dealing variety to customers
As the name suggests, Frontier Marine & Powersports is a marine and powersports dealer.
“We sell fishing boats, Polaris ATVs, UTVs and snowmobiles and Arctic Cat snowmobiles,” Bakken said, listing off just a few of Frontier’s products. “We service all of the local lakes marine wise and we do delivery, pick up, service, storage and winterizing for all marine and or personal watercrafts.”
While Frontier provides a variety of powersport brands, they are shifting their focus to the marine side, with the marine season coming around the corner.
“The Red River Valley Marine and Boat Show is coming up Jan. 26, 27 and 28,” Bakken said. “So, we are gearing up for the marine season.”
Frontier Marine & Powersports is a large Bennington pontoon dealer for this part of Minnesota, according to Bakken. They also sell Alumacraft boats and Yar-Craft fiberglass premium fishing boats. Frontier is also an authorized service center for all brands of engines, including Yamaha outboard engines, Mercury, Suzuki and Evinrude.
“We have a broad and good service department,” Bakken said. “Our technicians are factory certified on Yamaha, Mercury and Polaris products.”
Frontier Powersports started in 2008 when they combined with Nelson Polaris, moving into the old Nelson Ford building across from Perkins in April. At that time, Frontier also added the marine side of their services and roughly for eight of the 10 years they have been open, Frontier has been a Bennington dealer.
Then, in August of 2012, Frontier purchased the U Motors building, which is where they currently are located at, 1120 Frontier Drive. Since then, Bakken said Frontier has grown substantially.
“We had Alumacraft and Bennington, but then we added Yar-Craft boats,” Bakken said. “Now, we are adding the Godfrey line of pontoons, a sister company of Bennington. They make the Sweet Water Aqua Patio and Sanpan pontoon lines and we have just taken on those lines also.”Frontier is able to add onto their product line because the marine industry is making a large comeback, getting back to where it was prior to the 2008 market crash.
“The pontoon market is pretty hot right now,” Bakken said.
Last year, by the Fourth of July, Frontier ran out of pontoons and they needed another line to keep up with the demand. So, in came Godfrey.
In addition to adding onto their product lines, Frontier also purchased property just east of them a couple of years ago.
“It’s our new inventory and customer storage lot,” Bakken said. “It has really helped us out.”
Bakken said the secure storage lot is by Northern Lakes Dental and it has helped Frontier take care of its customers’ storage needs.
“That has always been my goal as general manager and it is what I have done for years,” Bakken said. “We are here to take care of the customer. We are a customers service business and without the customer being happy, we wouldn’t be here. That is what I instill in our employees. It’s all about customer service and satisfaction.”Contact:Lee Bakken, General Managerleeb@frontierpowersports.com, (218) 998-4386
