Advocacy

Elevate the Chamber's role as the small business governmental affairs liaison.

Leverage Government Liaisons

One of the Fergus Falls Chamber’s Strategic Priorities is to leverage government liaisons and elevate our role as the small business advocate. We are a trusted source of information with a respected and strong voice. The Chamber represents the needs of our members to state and local governments and agencies because we clearly understand our members’ needs and interests. We actively educate our members on key legislation and help them navigate changes that affect them. We seek to foster a business-friendly climate in Fergus Falls and Otter Tail County that allows businesses to fully compete for customers and market share based on the goods and services they provide. Here’s how we accomplish it:

  • Host meetings with City, County, State and Federal Legislators or with their staff members.
  • Attend City Council, County Commissioners & Committee of the Whole meetings keeping members informed about policies that may impact them.
  • “Legislative RoundUp” email available to our members, highlighting key business legislation.
  • Survey our members annually to determine issues and viewpoints.
  • We follow Legislative Action Guidelines, approved by the Board of Directors
  • Write Letters of Support/Opposition on proposed initiatives and share results with media and lawmakers.
  • Member of the Minnesota Chamber Small Business Federation
  • Host Legislative Events
    • Host Fergus Falls Refresh: State of the Community event with the City of Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County,
Greater Fergus Falls and Visit Fergus Falls
    • Host Political Forums – Meet the Candidates events during election years for candidates on the ballot for MN Senate Dist. 9
and House of Representatives Dist. 9A
